How do I know when a tyre needs replacing?
If the tread is under the legal 1.6mm, or you can see bulges, cracks or deep cuts in the rubber, it’s time for a new one. Sidewall punctures also mean replacing rather than repairing. If you’re unsure, our fitter will check it and tell you honestly.

Can I replace just one tyre?
Yes, one is fine. If the tyre on the other side of the same axle is badly worn, we may suggest doing both for even grip, especially on wet Pennine roads, but it’s always your call.
How long does a replacement take?
Around half an hour once the fitter arrives. We remove the old tyre, fit and balance the new one, and check the pressure before we leave.
Can you replace a tyre at the roadside?
Yes, as long as you’ve stopped somewhere safe, like a lay-by, services or side street. Motorway hard shoulders are off-limits, so come off the M62 or M1 at the next junction, or call recovery if the car can’t move.
